Description

Based on the revolutionry experimental observation on single membrane ion channel conductance carried out by Neher and Sakmann, a stochastic kinetic model based on Markov jump process was developed. The essential idea is that a single channel protein has several distinct conformations and the transition between the conformations can be characterized by a radioactive-decay-like process. Of course, treating a protein with a set of discrete state is only an approximation.
